One of the best, most accurate and descriptive trail reviews that I’ve ever read. There is little that I can add. Although our experience was a little different in that it wasn’t wildflower season and we didn’t experience any ticks. We DID endure literal swarms of these little flys that come out at this time of year. Everything else however mapped very nicely with our experience. Initially we didn’t set out to climb Post Summit. We were just going up to the East Molera Ridge and then walk around a little. So we didn’t bring enough water. OMG! Heat exhaustion is a real thing. So take that seriously. Our overconfidence… But I thought I’d mention it anyway. Anyway… best ever trail review… Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147716289244430266.post-65862374466333016492022-06-27T23:19:24.451-07:002022-06-27T23:19:24.451-07:00I'm glad you got to see this spectacular spot!...I'm glad you got to see this spectacular spot! To add to the comment from a few years ago, the Virginia Outdoors Foundation operates all day-to-day management of the Preserve and educational programs. They also create the trail maps. The Conservancy conducts environmental education in the greater area but does not have any information about the high point closure, nor do they have anything to do with Preserve management. If you would be able to clarify that for your readers, I would very much appreciate it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147716289244430266.post-65440198561776551002022-03-16T06:50:01.229-07:002022-03-16T06:50:01.229-07:00Great mountain labels!!Great mountain labels!!getalonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11195718727709016383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147716289244430266.post-45290683073655722212022-03-06T23:01:18.070-08:002022-03-06T23:01:18.070-08:00Oventop is a lovely mountain- getting to explore i...Oventop is a lovely mountain- getting to explore it from your family home sounds like such a charmed childhood! We'd scramble up from the top of what used to be a thriving orchard neighboring our farm--a steep, boulder-strewn climb for sure! The clockwise approach for this loop has a more gentle uphill along the Ridge Trail and a steeper descent on the Panorama Trail, while the counterclockwise loop described here has a more strenuous uphill but a gentler descent. My personal philosophy is to do more gentle descents when possible, as that is usually least taxing on one's knees and other joints. It's a beautiful hike no matter which direction you take- hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!Chuhernhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18299187765218736474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147716289244430266.post-32288417871842254082021-07-07T18:29:41.203-07:002021-07-07T18:29:41.203-07:00hi there thank you for taking the time to do this....hi there thank you for taking the time to do this. why is that most hikers go clockwise instead of counterclockwise like you did? we just did your route and found it pretty strenuous.mkmdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05070399810058706480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147716289244430266.post-65337154310919434042021-07-06T09:54:41.526-07:002021-07-06T09:54:41.526-07:00The first segment of the East Molera Trail up to t...The first segment of the East Molera Trail up to the ridge is definitely becoming more popular!
